An absence

January 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I last blogged – I’m horrified I’ve left it so long!!  I could blame it on Christmas and New Year of course but that excuse wears thin after a while.

So what have we been up to?

We’ve resurrected our business on eBay which lets us reach a lot more people – take a look at our store - and we’ve been working on some exciting new packages.  The first one we launched via our website and eBay – it’s our Psychic in a Pocket package which is basically a text service we’re providing.  At the moment it’s only in the UK but who knows where it will lead!!

I’ve also been venturing out of the ‘broom’ closet more and offering more Pagan/Wiccan readings and spells.  This is an area we’re going to expand in 2007 with my Witch Shop so that’s exciting :-)

And we’re working on providing more healing and holistic therapies both in person and over the web.  We definitely plan to have our hands full this year.

Suprisingly since I last blogged we haven’t added to our Tarot collection but that’s mainly because of previously mentioned business and new puppy Aine.  Plus we’re showing considerable constraint from visiting our favourite shops in London.

So that’s my brief message for now – will add more Tarot bits and pieces soon.

With blessings

Tarot upside down

November 16, 2006 · 1 Comment

I go through stages with reversals. Sometimes I like them and sometimes I don’t.

There are two stages of thought on reversals either they’re the bees knees or they are unnecessary because each card contains an element of positive and negative regardless of which way up the card may be.

When I first became drawn to the Tarot I saw the +- attributes in the card so I read upright with often a negative slant when I felt inclined. Then I read too many Tarot books and listened to other people’s advice about reversals so I began to include them in my readings.

As time has passed and my intuition grown I tend to just let my mind wander in a reading and see what it comes up with.

I often play around with the idea of ‘degrees’ of positive & negative and construct elaborate methods of easily identifying them. I’ve thought about dice, pendulums and even my own Tarot deck and yet I still prefer an upright reading!!

So reversals, just like the rest of Tarot, is a personal thing.

Do you read reversals?

Wet fish with wand envy

September 25, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I’m a Pisces and I love the creative aspects that I’ve inherited from my birth sign.  I am intuitive, kind, considerate and creative.

However, I also have to work on the spin side of my sign – I withdraw, I become depressed and gloomy.  The weight of the world lands on my shoulders and I feel it pressing me down.
Time and time again I draw a significator for myself and it’s the Queen of Wands.  Why is the Tarot poking fun at me I ask??

This cheerful dynamic go-getter queen bustling with energy and confidence – who me?

So what do you do when your significator is nothing like you see yourself?

The answer is simple – you embrace it.

The wonderful Joan Bunning has these words of wisdom on the Queen of Wands:

‘In readings, the Queen of Wands asks you to think and feel as she does. For example: Do you feel attractive? Do you believe in yourself? Are you full of energy? Can you shake off the blues? Are you gung ho about life?’

The Queen of Wands, for me, is who I aspire to be everyday.  She is the antidote to my water qualities and it’s my task to balance the fire/water polarity.

So, what’s your significator and is it truly how you see yourself? Or perhaps like me you have to work at it?

Blessings

Fame beckons….and I’m out

September 15, 2006 · Leave a Comment

We had a message on our answerphone the other day from a TV production company looking for a Tarot reader to take part in a new series for the BBC.  They wanted to talk to us!!

I excitedly called back and the executive explained a new show was being filmed called ‘Alternative Careers’ whereby the presenter is taught by alternative experts how to use these skills to improve people’s lives.

Then has asked me to come to the studio on Monday to meet the presenter.

And this is where it all fell down.

It was the same date as our son’s operation.  We couldn’t reschedule and neither could the production team -(

Why can’t I get what I want NOW!!

September 5, 2006 · 1 Comment

Hello all,

Lyn and I are back from the last of our holidays until Christmas.  I thought that I would kick today off with a spread that I put together.  It is a chance to let your intuition help you toward that desire.  Use it and let Lyn and I know the results.  We love to hear from people.

It is what I have always wanted! Why can’t I have it?!

Have you ever set your heart on something but couldn’t seem to obtain it no matter how hard you tried? Millions of people experience this all the time. Sometimes the desire is not one that is good for you long-term and you are mercifully saved from greater pain by either unconsciously blocking yourself or being blocked by someone or something else. At other times fear of the future and/or inexperience trips you up and you forsake your dream unnecessarily. This spread can help you determine which situation applies to your quest and gives you some advice on how to proceed if proceeding is the best thing for you

Position 1 - What is the greatest obstacle that stands in the way of my desire? – Consider people and situations when drawing a Minor and internal conflicts with Majors.

Position 2 - What is the best that I can hope for if I make the best of my resources? – this will be a picture of what you can obtain if you strategically use all the resources available to you. If this card reveals a bleak situation then understand the your desire is not in your best interest at this time. Either give up your desire here for your own good or ignore the prophecy and push forward being aware that you are heading for a negative experience. Note that the influence that this card reflects lasts for about six months, so if you have the same desire after that time (most people tend to move on) begin this spread again. Either way, do not finish this spread until there is a positive card in this position. The rest of the spread will be of no avail other wise.

Position 3 – 6 - Who or what can help me? – ponder hard upon these cards for they are the tools available to you at this time. If one or more of the tools turn out to be persons make sure that you do something that benefits them as they help you to obtain your goal.

Position 7-8 - The first two steps to get you started – this is a boost from your subconscious. It will be up to your logical brain to take it from this. After making you aware of these steps your subconscious will return to acting as a monitor in helping to decide if you’re logical brain is making the right decisions.

Namaste,

Paul

A Review on The Gothic Tarot by Joseph Vargo

August 22, 2006 · Leave a Comment

Hello all,

Here is a review on the Gothic Tarot by yours truly. Visit my site to read other reviews.

The Gothic Tarot

The Gothic Tarot is an outstanding deck featuring the art work of Joseph Vargo and a very well written booklet by Christine Filipak. For quick reference I will divide this review into two parts. The first part will put the spotlight on the accompanying booklet (something important not done frequently enough in my opinion), whilst the second part will concentrate on the deck itself.

The Booklet

The Gothic Tarot booklet begins with a brief synopsis on the Major Arcana and how it may be interpreted as a whole. In just seven clear and concise sentences Christine clearly introduces six important concepts that will help both the experienced and the inexperienced reader to confidently interpret these twenty-two cards in any spread.

Following this introduction to the Majors, Christine proceeds to give key concepts and words for each card. I found two things extremely refreshing in the manner she chose to do this. The first was that she made all concepts and keywords relevant to the artwork. Some are very traditional whilst others are strictly for this deck. I was also impressed that the reverse meanings were well considered negative aspects of the upright meanings as opposed to simply indicating the complete opposite. This opens a greater range for the readers intuition to expand and work with.

After artfully wrapping up the Majors, Christine goes to work on the Minors. Once again a clear and concise synopsis explains how to interpret the cards in this Arcana as a whole. I particularly enjoyed the fact that she views the court cards as generally representing people or character qualities of the querent. I have long held this view and have struggled with other readers who interpret them almost synonymously with other cards (if they are meant to be the same as other cards, why include the Court Cards at all?).

The praises I had for the Majors are equally earned in the Minors. Clearly Christine does not view the Minors as any less significant to the life of the reader. This helps the him/her to understand the dual levels of existence that we are influenced by daily.

Christine ends the booklet with two spreads. The first is entitled “The Mystic Seven” and is designed to answer a specific question. The other is the ancient and most well-known “Celtic Cross” which is primarily designed to see the influences around one and how they impact his/her life. Between the two, any question may be answered with ease.

To sum this section up, I want to applaud Christine’s work. She makes stepping into reading and interpreting the Tarot both easy and pleasant for people of all experience levels.

The Deck

The fronts of the cards are pitch black in colour and have a thin lined blue frame both around the artwork itself and around the key words. The thin blue frame accomplishes two things. First, it adds a smart symmetrical look that pleases the eye. More importantly, however, it creates the illusion of a door into the Gothic scenes.

This makes it possible for the reader to more easily interact with the experiences portrayed rather than just see it with his/her eyes. The card backs are also pitch black in colour. In brilliant contrast to the fronts these are framed in thin blood red lines that encompass a Gothic Design.

Each card is marked for quick reference as well as reading ease. The Major Arcana have a Roman numeral at the top centre of the card and the traditional title at the bottom. The set-up is quite similar for the Minors. The number cards also have a Roman numeral on top, but instead of the title they list the appropriate suit (Wands, Cups, Swords, or Pentacles) at the bottom. The court cards list rank (Page, Knight, Queen, or King) on top and the appropriate suit at the bottom.

Using only six colours (blue, red, green, brown, silver, and black) Joseph Vargo depicts scenes of both darkness and light, despair and joy, as well as good and evil. As one would expect the characters consist mostly of vampires but there is a strong supporting cast of spirits (gentle and violent), ghouls, skeletons, gargoyles, werewolves, sorcerers, and even some angels. Add to these the following animals: crows, horses, bats, serpents, dragons, and you have all the makings of a crew that will bring a message to the strongest sceptic as well as the one who believes s/he has seen it all.

When I lay these cards out on a black lay cloth and watch the story unfold it reminds me of the classic black and white Dracula movies with Christopher Lee that I watched as a boy. Perhaps this is a big reason why I am so drawn to this deck.

I would highly recommend this deck to everyone but especially to the following people: Goths, movie monster lovers, and any who have walked in the shadow and know from experience and the bottom of their souls that monsters as well as angels surround us both inside and out.

Namaste,

Paul

And the answer is…

August 21, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I’ve spent the last few nights restless – tossing and turning much to the annoyance of my husband.

Whilst in this turbulent state the answer to my problems came in a dream.

And it is the 3 of Cups

It’s not often I dream of Tarot Cards (even though I dream every night) so I know this has a deep significance for me. So what does it all mean?

The card I saw clearly was from the Robin Wood deck (shown below).

3 of Cups

This picture is one of joy – the ladies are happy, dancing and celebrating.  On a very simplistic level that’s what I need to do.  I’m in a position right now where the feelings that are associated with this card are missing from my life.  I’m stuck, stagnating and my soul is shouting to be free so I can rejoice in the beauty of life.

Blessings

Lyn
